Everybody’s dream for 2014 is to make money online and have a better testimony to share at the end of the year. Making money online is quite easy; but it’s going to be a little tougher in 2014 because the competition is increasing daily.
There are no doubts some of you made money in the previous years; but the same tactics you used in 2013 may not give you the same results in 2014. So as things change and the competition gets fiercer, you must think fast and re-strategize in order to be able to make meaningful impact in the scheme of things.
Why new approach is necessary
New approach to making money online is necessary in 2014 because a lot of people with skills are entering the money market daily and over the past one year, several new micro-job sites have also been opened, making the system a little more diluted because so many people are ready to accept half of the bids you made last year.
If you have visited some of these micro-job sites in the past months you would have noticed that bidding for jobs have become so competitive that you easily get knocked out of the bidding process if you try to stick to your usual earning status and you are not ready to be flexible in your bidding. What does this mean? The more you try to be flexible, the lesser you eventually earn. But the more you try to be rigid, the easier you get knocked out by those who are ready to settle for peanuts.
You might have earned big monies in the past and feel you deserve to earn more based on experience. But how about those freelancers whose only means of livelihood is online? The moment they feel that they are likely to lose out, they quickly settle for lesser pricing because that is the only way to ensure they feed their families. They virtually force you to bid cheaper. So there is need to adopt a better approach in order to survive.
Where to make money online in 2014
Those areas where I feel you will make money online this year include but are not limited to the following:
1. Niche blogs:
This year, the pendulum will gradually tilt in favour of specialists or niche blogs. A lot of advertisers would migrate toward the blogs that are focused and would give them targeted traffic. So if you are a blogger, it would pay you more to concentrate on a particular niche and strive to become an authority in that area. The era of general blogging is gradually dying out. I am already refocusing Bizsuccessguide to maintain its primary area of business/small business so everyone would know the blog even by its name. My posts for this year are now gradually tailored in that direction. I want this blog to be an authority when it comes to business, small business, startups, etc.
Writing has been the major area where bloggers and freelancers earn money. So if you go to sites like MyCheapJobs, , Seoclerks, Fiverr, Postjoint, Ranksider, SponsoredReview, GuestCrew, etc you will notice how cheap it has become to write posts for people.
Having seen the competition, what then should you do to stand out? You first have to start with lower prizes in order to get better rating and gain the confidence of the people there. Once your rating improves, you can then gradually up your prices; at this stage, people would trust you more and be ready to give you jobs even though your prices are a little higher. They would always reason that you could be trusted in as much as the positive ratings you have on deliverability and quality are quite high. This eventually helps you make money online this year more than ever before.
The second thing you could do is to enter into personal negotiation with the advertiser and offer to give more value if he/she agrees to increase your price. You could offer to add two or three free articles to the original one as bonus. You could also offer to help promote his/her post on social media after it is published. Besides, offering software or e-books you think could be really useful could help to land the job at a better price.
3. Driving traffic:
Everybody is crazy about getting more traffic to their blogs/websites. You can make money online this year if you have a surefire way of driving real (not automated) traffic to people’s websites. If you visit those micro-job sites, driving traffic is one of those gigs that sell very well. So you can reposition yourself this year in that area and make lots of cool cash.
4. Social followers:
Since Google released their punches against spam blog comments and fraudulent guest posts, the attentions of the blogging and the online business communities have gone to getting more followers on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, etc. So if you can help people gain more social followers, you are sure to make more money this year.
5. Domain flipping:
You must have noticed that the .com domains are almost all taken. If you visit any of the domain registrars and try to register a domain that has 2 or 3 letters, you will discover there is no single one that has not been taken. It takes luck to even get a 4 letter domain these days. What this means is that those smart investors who bought a lot of these domains are going to make money online (lot of them) from selling them this year. Though new TLDs like.video, .store, .guru, .singles, .company, etc are now out, people are much more comfortable going after .com domains. If you have them, it’s time to take them to the market and make a kill from them this year. For those who have not ventured into this business, there is still an opportunity to make something reasonable out of the remaining names that are yet to be taken. You can sell your domains on Flippa, Sedo, etc.
6. Blog customization:
Blog layout, speed, plugins, are major issues that require the attention of experts for better user experiences. People want their blogs to look beautiful, respond to mobile devices and be fast as well. Can you render these services? With several millions of blogs running on WordPress, then you are sure to make money this year customizing blogs for people.
Where can you get clients? You can get clients by setting up a “services” page on your personal blog and let your visitors know you can render these services. You can also create an account on sites like Elance, Freelancer, Odesk, etc and set up gigs to that effect and people would look for you.
With people looking for ways to cut down on hosting or shopping cost, you are bound to make money online by creating and running coupon sites. A lot of people are looking for places to get coupons to buy new domain names, pay for hosting packages or do some shopping online.
How would you profit from this niche? Simply set up your coupon site and update it with new coupons every month. Just add you Google Adsense bloc and make money from the traffic visiting the site. Besides, you could also get a lot of sponsors who want to get words across to a wider audience about their coupons. Joining affiliate programmes of those sites and placing your own personally generated coupon codes could also get you a lot of money as people use your coupon codes to pay for those packages.
8. Business advice:
Do you know that nobody wants to part with his hard-earned income unless he is sure he is investing it in the right business? People want to be guided to choose the right businesses to invest in. If you can teach them how to invest wisely, then the sky would be your starting point in 2014.
Teaching people how to plan businesses, write business proposal letters or how to read and understand business financial reports could really pay off for you this year. Take a look at an example of business proposal letter written by Enstine Muki and see the comments that follow. It shows you how badly people need information like this.
9. eCommerce store:
Setting up an ecommerce store and physically delivering products to buyers at home is a service that is gaining popularity these days. You simply give buyers the option of paying for the products upon delivery. This is particularly helpful for businesses that are geo-focused. There is much money to be made here if you can take products to people’s homes and collect your money. They can easily check the products for quality and fitness, and when they are satisfied, your money is paid instantly.
10. Website flipping:
If you visit the “just sold” section of Flippa then you would know you have been leaving a lot of money on the table. People are making a hell of money flipping websites. I am definitely going to join to take my own piece of the cake.
It is not difficult to make money online on Flippa. All you need is to create a website with domain name that has good search traffic or one that is in the niche that attracts much traffic. Develop it and drive traffic to it for some months and give it out for sale. You can make anything from 100% to 1000% gain and even more. If you have never given this a thought before, it’s high time you did so because more and more people would look for an easy way to start online business or blog without wanting to pass through the hassles of building a new blog/website this year.
