How to Set up a Blog Without Consulting a Professional

You can set up a blog on different platforms depending on what the vision of the person is, and also depending on whether or not he has the money to run his blog on a paid domain.
There are basically two ways you can set up a blog which include free and paid domains. If you opt for a free domain you will not pay anything to host your blog. It would be hosted on a sub-domain for you. This is the reason why you see some blog sites ending in “” because blogger or wordpress hosts the blog for free as the case may be. For example, if your blog name is marriage, you will have written as
You can also opt for the paid domain where you buy a domain name from a web hosting company and use the name to host the blog. Such blogs eventually end in “.com”. For instance if the name of your blog is marriage, you will have it as
We shall look into the advantages or disadvantages of both free and paid domains later in one of our lessons. But for now let us look as the simple way to create a blog on “Blogger”, a platform under Google which is actually a free sub-domain.
Step1: Go and open an account at Blogger site at . Then you will find a box with the inscription “CREATE A BLOG”
Click on it and you are taken to a new page where you would be required to

create a Google account. You can set up a blog account here: the form and proceed. Your display name is the name that would be required to sign every post you make on your blog.
Click ‘continue’ and you will be taken to the page where you will be required to provide a title for your blog. Your title has to do with what your blog is all about. It should be written in such a way as to make it easier for search engines to locate.
In our illustration, the blog title is Business Success Guide because the blog has got something to do with business success.
The next information you have to provide is the URL of your blog- this is the address where your blog is located on the website. It usually ends with because it is hosted on Google’s blogger website. So for this particular site the blog URL is So you have to think before naming your blog to make it search engine-friendly.
Your address could also contain “dash” signs e.g
Next, click ‘continue’ and you will be taken to the next page where you have to choose a template for your blog. There are 12 templates to choose from (though new ones are being added from time to time); you have to preview to be sure they suit you before going ahead with them.

After choosing your template, click on ‘continue’ and then a page will come up, informing you that your blog has been created and that you are free to start posting on it. The page looks like the image below

When you click on ‘START BLOGGING’, you are taken to the page where you now write or paste your already written article; you can also paste your video or images there. And the page looks like this:
